Anxious

I am anxious tonight. As I think about the various tasks I must complete especially one that is pressing, anxiety rises. My mind quickly responds with Psalm 46:10, Be still and know that I am God… Thank you, LORD, that you’re my comforter. Thank you for your word that is true in any circumstance.

Love,

EVER BE

In God’s Promises by Elisabeth Elliot, particularly, The Music of His Promises, we are told that “On dark days”… pray Psalm 119:172 (Let the music of thy promises be on my tongue). “Ever Be” by Bethel Music immediately came to mind, it sings, your praise will ever be on my lips.

That is the attitude God wants us to adopt, what He wants you to adopt. “But how can we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?” said the Israelites and so say we in present day. How can we sing, how can I sing at all?

But we must sing, and not just any song, but the music of his promises. Not because we believe solely in promises and what good will come to us, but we believe and trust in Him who promises, in Him who holds all things. So sing my dear friends. I have not been singing. It’s as though I’ve forgotten the songs, forgotten the melody or have refused to sing. When I traced my steps, funnily I found my way back. As children of God, He promised He would not leave us nor forsake us, He said he is close to us who are brokenhearted.

Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

You see, for what seemed like complete memory loss or lack of strength. I worked out my salvation, in that I went back to a place of obedience, and then it all started coming back to me; the songs, the verses, the conviction, the admission and the repentance.

Again?!!! But that is what is required of me. To say yes to Jesus every day, to fall on my knees every day, despite me, in spite of me, even when. In ” The Music if His Promises”, Elisabeth adds,

Do you feel nothing of the kind? When did the validity of the Eternal Word rest on the mood of one of His poor children?

Amen to that. Remembering one song, led me to others, then to Bible verses and then a time of prayer for myself and for others and to this blog entry and 3 hours later; all I can say is thank you, Lord.

He is MAGNANIMOUS indeed.

I saw somewhere that the word Push was placed in an acronym form. You’ve probably seen it too.

P.U.S.H

P – push

U – until

S – something

H – happens

Today I encourage myself and possibly you to PUSH. Push whatever or whoever is holding you down. Don’t quit, continue pushing until you see a breakthrough.

STASIS

The Oxford English dictionary defines STASIS as a period or state of inactivity or equilibrium, civil strife.

This adequately describes the past 4 months. I will say that I have been going through civil strife lately and it is a hard and lonely road even with all the support and help I may have. I started this blog to write at least once a month. It was a charge to myself so I could have consistency and something to look forward to, that brought me joy and release and if someone was blessed by it as a result, hey, even better. And so I will do my best to avoid stasis on this blog.

I came across the word STASIS- through my biology textbooks, particularly zoology. In zoology, there is a lot of stasis. In evolutionary biology, STASIS in really simple terms means that in species, there was little to no evolutionary change for a long time, especially in species now that are very similar to their ancestors from millions of years ago. In contrast to this is, Phyletic gradualism, where they believe evolution of species takes place in a uniform, slow and gradual manner.

As believers, or as people period, a lot of times we may feel in stasis. That nothing has changed, that things are exactly the same as before with no hope for the future. On the other hand, it is plain to see, that although we are not where we want to be yet not where we were – there have been changes – whether for better or worse.

God may have you in stasis to teach you something (but while you may be in stasis, things around you are changing)

Our current social and political climates give us flashbacks of times past and one may wonder, have we really made progress?

If there were a spectrum we would lean more toward phyletic gradualism than stasis because yesterday was not the same as today and today will be different from tomorrow, no matter the similarities, there are differences.

Now we know we have an unchangeable GOD who is true to HIS character and thus never fails, but at the same time HE is not static in nature because GOD is always on the move and HE works in our lives and the lives of others. Though you may not see it, He is uniformly, slowly and gradually at work and sometimes he can just SHOCK us with a sudden change. God can be unpredictable like that.

Yet more than anything, He cares for you, yes HE is MAGNANIMOUS like that too. Whether you’re in stasis or in phyletic gradualism, remember

1 Peter 5:7 – Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

and 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

God gets you

Psalm 37:23-24 NIV
The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

Psalm 103:14 says God knows how we are formed and He remembers we are dust. In, Matthew 26:41, we hear Jesus acknowledge our weakness : “…the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” Isaiah 41 adds that God gives strength to the weary; and on and on.

Brothers and Sisters, God has made provision for us in His grace, in His Son Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit our comforter and in Himself as our Father.

He doesn’t expect us to figure it out, He just wants us to take his hand that is outstretched towards us and walk with Him, not looking to the right, left, or back and dare I say not looking forward. He just wants us to “fix our eyes upon Him” and He will lead us the right way. Rest in Him, surrender, He knows you are weak, He knows you are broken, He knows you are sad, He knows you are angry. His magnanimous nature overcomes all that, overcomes all the reasons why you think you cannot approach His throne of grace, forgiveness and redemption. He understands…

GOD GETS YOU

CALL ON HIM

Isaiah 38:1-5

Hezekiah’s Illness

38 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,“Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.

God is omnipresent and all knowing so he sees and hears all that you are going through. Then why does it look like things are going downhill, heading towards death even? I do not have the answers, I ask God the same questions regularly; but what I do know and is true is that, God’s word is unfailing, that you can hold onto His word. He says it will not return to Him void. His word will accomplish its purpose.

Sometimes you just have to call on God, weep bitterly like Hezekiah, ask Him to remember you.
